In 2024, elections are scheduled to take place in nearly 70 countries with a combined population of about 4 billion people. This is more than ever before in human history. The Experts Club analytical center has analyzed the ten most important elections, in the opinion of experts, that could lead to radical changes in the international agenda.
This information was obtained by KВ from news Open4business and video Experts Club.
USA: Donald Trump’s return?
The most anticipated political event of 2024 is the US presidential election, scheduled for November 5.
“These elections could lead to significant changes in the global political landscape, with the potential return of former President Donald Trump being of particular interest. His candidacy has already sparked much debate, particularly regarding his influence on US foreign policy, relations with allies, and support for Ukraine. The results of these elections could determine America’s global course for years to come,” said Experts Club founder Maxim Urakin.
United Kingdom: Time for Change for the Conservatives?
The United Kingdom is also preparing for important parliamentary elections, which, according to the expert, could be a turning point for the ruling Conservatives.
“Prime Minister Rishi Sunak faces many challenges, including polls that predict a ‘heavy defeat’ for his party. The elections in Britain could radically change the country’s political course,” emphasizes Maxim Urakin.
According to all polls, the Conservatives are trailing the Labour Party by 15-20%.
Taiwan: elections amid tensions with China
In Taiwan, where presidential elections are scheduled for January 13, the political situation is burdened by growing tensions in relations with China. Urakin notes that the elections in Taiwan could exacerbate geopolitical contradictions in the region, especially in relations between China and the United States.
“Of the three presidential candidates vying for victory, Lai Ching-te, who is the candidate of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party, is strongly anti-China. The second candidate, Hou Yu-ih of the opposition Kuomintang, wants to start negotiations with Beijing. The third candidate, Ko Wen-je of the Taiwan People’s Party (TPP) and former mayor of Taipei, offers a middle ground closer to reconciliation. Polls favor the candidate with an anti-China stance,” said the founder of Experts Club.
India: Elections in the world’s largest democracy
India, the world’s largest democracy, will also face important elections. Elections to the lower house of the Lok Sabha are expected to take place in April-May.
“These elections are not only important for India, but also for the entire international community, given India’s growing role on the world stage,” notes Urakin.
