Norway and Germany topped the list of countries that Ukrainians view most positively, while Hungary and China lead the ranking of countries with the worst ratings. According to gordonua.com, this is evidenced by the results of a study conducted by Active Group and the Experts Club analytical center at the end of August.
“This is not the first study of this type, but this time we selected 50 countries based on economic criteria—we asked about the countries with which Ukraine trades the most,” said sociologist and founder of Active Group Andriy Yeremenko at a press conference at the Interfax-Ukraine agency.
According to him, Ukrainians most often associate the achievement of peace with the EU – 42% of respondents believe this. The US is supported by almost 26% of respondents, and the UK by 13%, the sociologist added.
At the same time, large countries such as China, India, and Brazil are not actually considered to be contributing to a peaceful settlement in Ukraine, Yeremenko noted.
In economic terms, Ukraine’s main partners are China, Poland, Germany, Turkey, and the US, but attitudes toward them vary greatly, emphasized Active Group director Oleksandr Pozniy.
“For example, more than 76% of Ukrainians have a positive attitude toward Germany, while only 12% have a positive attitude toward China and 40% have a negative attitude. The case of Hungary is even more critical, with 16% having a positive attitude and 55% having a negative attitude,” Pozniy said.
According to the poll, 77.7% of Ukrainians have a positive attitude toward Norway, 76.7% toward Germany, 76.3% toward Sweden, 75.3% toward the UK, 75% toward France, 73.7% toward Denmark, 72.7% to Latvia, and 71.7% to Lithuania.
Among the countries with the most negative attitudes among Ukrainians are Hungary (55.7%), China (40.7%), Iraq (37%), India (26.3%), and Serbia (26%).
Context
The poll was conducted by Active Group using the SunFlower Sociology online panel, with self-completed questionnaires by Ukrainians aged 18 and older. The sample consists of 800 questionnaires (representative in terms of age, gender, and region of Ukraine). The data collection period was April 2025.
The theoretical statistical error is 3.5%.
